In 1971, the Carreras husband and wife duo opened two jewelry salons in Hilton Head, South Carolina, and in Irvington, Virginia at the Tides Inn Resort. As the customer base continued to grow, it became apparent to the duo that their firm need to go "public" with a ground-level store. Equipped with three employees, The Grand Salon opened in the Sovran Plaza (what state??) in the fall of 1977. It was around this time that many jewelry manufacturers began lowering the quality of products offered, forcing the Carrera's to go against the grain and begin on-site manufacturing, ensuring they could provide their customers with the highest quality stones and workmanship possible.
Five years after opening the Grand Salon, the Petit Salon was opened in Richmond's West End. The Carreras expansions and growth caused the closure of the two existing out-of-town operations, establishing themselves as one of Richmond's most trusted and capable jewelers. Soon after, the Engagement Salon was developed adjacent to the Petit Salon and served as the only store catering entirely to the engagement market at the time. The Carreras eventually condensed both locations and re-establish themselves at the current Libbie Avenue location.
Moving into the 90s, 2000s, and today, Carreras embraces their original philosophy of offering the highest quality gems and jewelry possible. The local support of discerning, value-oriented customers has propelled Carreras Jewelers to be distinguished as Richmond's premier jeweler today.
